AFL ‘ Western Bulldogs’

Origin

One of the great things about Aglet was the ability to be creative. We released literally thousands of shoe designs over our 4 year journey, and one that I was very passionate about was recognising the AFL Grand Final. So prior to the 2021 Grand Final we released a small quantity of 300 each of Melbourne Demons and Western Bulldogs footy boots.

Sneaker Story

Founded in 1877, and originally named after their Western suburban heartland, Footscray, the Western Bulldogs were originally part of the VFA, before being accepted as a VFL/AFL team in 1925. With an impressive 10 Brownlow Medalists having represented the club, the Bulldogs have won just two premierships, in 1954 and then, after a 62 year drought, in 2016. Just like in 2016, the Bulldogs have chosen the long path to the Grand Final, winning through their Elimination, Qualifying and Preliminary Finals to have the opportunity to play on the big stage.

In 2021, they will meet the Melbourne Demons in the AFL Grand Final, to be held for the first time in Western Australia, due to ongoing restrictions in Melbourne due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Being based in Melbourne’s Western suburbs, the Bulldogs have a strong working class supporter base, unlike their Grand Final rivals whose supporter base tends to spend their winters in their chalets in the snowfields. This fierce love of the club is best exemplified by the groundswell of support the club received when a merger with rival team Fitzroy was proposed by then President Nick Columb. The supporters, led by lawyer Peter Gordon and a host of others, rallied to raise funds to pay off the club’s debts, saving the club, and laying the groundwork for the success they now enjoy.

It’s clear that you can’t beat the boys of the Bulldog breed, they’re the team of the mighty West.
